Board of Directors
Board Meeting, April 20, 2010
Opening
The quarterly meeting of the El Cerrito Tennis Club was called to order at 6:30 p.m. on April 20, 2010, at 821 Shevlin Drive, El Cerrito, by President Margo Takemiya.
Present: Dick Bascom, Susan Brand, Jan Bridges, Bob Nowacki, Lori Staley, Darrell Staley, Fred Takemiya, Margo Takemiya, Jan Wilkins
Absent: Ellen DeNeef, April Tanalski, Louise Vogelsberg
A. Approval of Minutes
A motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes as uploaded on the web.
B. Treasurer's Report
Jan's report contained current expenditures and income. The report was accepted as presented.
C. Old Business
- Lock for Storage Locker: The old lock was located and installed.
- Email Vote on Soccer Proposal: The Soccer League contacted the El Cerrito Club and asked if the kids could practice soccer on the tennis courts when they weren't being used. In an email vote, the Board unanimously agreed that the courts would be damaged by soccer practice and strongly recommended against it.
D. New Business
- Membership Status: 100 members have renewed and joined the club. Thirty QuickStart junior members have also joined. The application in the roster and yearly newsletter will ask for cell phone numbers so we can add them to the 2011 roster.
- Adult Leagues: There are six USTA teams currently registered: Men's 3.5; Women's 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0; Men's Super Seniors 65; and Women's Super Seniors 65. The new deadline to purchase permits and ECTC membership is the end of April.
The Hackers and ECTC have agreed that only USTA matches, not practices, have precedence for court reservations at the Arlington courts.
An ECTC member who plays on a USTA team has asked the club to consider increasing the stipend paid to teams. Reasons given are: the teams help boost ECTC membership and should offer more monetary support, permits and reservation fees have gone up, the club has cash reserves that could be used to help support the teams. Fred will research the cost to play on a team and compare with other clubs. - Junior League and QuickStart Tennis: The club will continue to sponsor a QuickStart Tennis League for El Cerrito and offer QuickStart Tennis again next spring. The first season was declared a success — the kids had a great time and showed great improvement in their skills. The captains thought the QuickStart methods were successful and fun. Parents reported that their kids enjoyed the process and expressed interest in another session.
- 2010 Roster: Susan said that the roster would go out in mid May. Darrell will send the latest membership list at the end of April.
- Email List Distribution: There will be no distribution of the Club's email list for non-club-sponsored or related events. A request for the list for club-sponsored or related events has to be approved by the Board before distribution.
- Summer BBQ: The Summer Round Robin BBQ will be Sunday, July 18, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at Arlington Park. Darrell will send out a email. Susan will post fliers at the courts. Jan Wilkins will be in charge of the food. Dick will find the cooks and bring charcoal. Lori will make the court reservations.
- Items to Discuss with Monica:
- Ask about patching the hole on the Cerrito Vista east court.
- The center strap at Tassajara is gone on the court closest to the bay.
- Confirm that Cerrito Vista is the next court for resurfacing and what the cost and timing is.
- Next Meeting: The next board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 20, 6:30 p.m., at the home of Margo and Fred Takemiya.
Respectfully submitted by Susan Brand.
