Annual Mixed Tournament Coming Up September 19
Save Sunday, September 19, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., for the club's annual mixed doubles tournament. This is our event with prizes and (small) entry fees. Lunch and prizes will be served at the Arlington courts following play. Adult members and nonmembers are welcome. You may register as a team or as a single. We will attempt to match up single entrants. (For the benefit of those who are not regular tennis players — a mixed doubles team consists of a man and a woman.)
Because so many players have moved up in the ratings, this year the two divisions will be at the 7.5 and 6.5 levels, instead of 7.0 and 6.0 as in past years. The combined ratings of the two players must not add up to more than these numbers. Entry fees are $8.00 per doubles team or $5.00 per single entrant. Download the registration form here and send it in before September 13. There is a maximum number of players that can participate, so be sure to register soon!
Nice Turnout for Annual Picnic and Round Robin July 18
Upwards of 40 players showed up for the club's annual summer event this year on a beautiful summer day. This was especially remarkable in view of the fact that two of our USTA league teams had playoff matches that day, both at Harbor Bay (the women won, the men lost). Play was followed by a nice barbecue, after which some players went back and played until 2:30 in the afternoon.
Photos coming soon.
City Recreation Fundraiser August 30

The Dynamo Open will be held on Monday, August, 30, 2010, at Mira Vista Country Club. More...
First QuickStart Session Ends with Picnic
The first session of the El Cerrito Junior QuickStart league was completed with a picnic potluck and awards ceremony on Sunday, May 23. Good food was enjoyed by all as the last team matches were completed. Prizes and medals were awarded to all players. The coordinator, Margo Takemiya, promised all that the next session will have twice as many participants with the same dedicated coaches/assistant coaches who gave so much of their time and expertise. Thanks goes to all the parents who helped out as well.
The Club Goes Green
El Cerrito Tennis Club supports our tennis teams in "going green."
We're asking our team captains to reduce the use of bottled water during home matches. ECTC has purchased a big Coleman container for this purpose and is encouraging the team captains to request the visiting teams to bring their own water containers to fill as needed. More...
From Your President
It is quickly coming to the end of the year, and my first year as President has been very eventful. We made strides toward our mission of encouraging the growth of tennis in El Cerrito, but in retrospect it wasn't as much as I'd wanted. My main goal was to stimulate the younger population to pick up a racquet and try the game. But my goal fell short.
One of the Club's first accomplishments under my leadership was a $500 donation to support the El Cerrito High School's boys' and girls' tennis teams. Last year we donated $1000 to the Albany boys' tennis team, and happily they've been able to take off and support themselves this year with great team, community, and parent participation. More...
